AHVED Family Unity & Child Protection Program
A confidential emergency preparedness program for Haitian families facing immigration uncertainty — helping parents plan ahead to protect their children no matter what happens.
The Problem
Florida's Haitian community has been among the hardest hit by TPS termination and heightened immigration enforcement. When a parent is detained with no plan in place, children can be left without legal caregivers, cut off from medical care and school authorizations, and separated from family in both the U.S. and Haiti. The need for community-led family preparedness infrastructure is urgent and immediate.
About This Project
The AHVED Family Unity & Child Protection Program is a community-based emergency preparedness initiative designed to support Haitian families navigating immigration uncertainty in Florida.
When a parent is detained or deported, the impact on their children can be immediate and devastating — especially when no plan exists. AHVED is stepping in to help families prepare before a crisis happens.
Through this program, families can:
Register a confidential Emergency Family File — including designated caregivers, medical information, school contacts, and reunification preferences.
Access legal resources and document preparation guidance — temporary guardianship forms, powers of attorney, updated passports, and more.
Connect with trained family support volunteers — a dedicated team ready to act the moment a parent calls from detention.
Receive ongoing support — from legal referrals, to contacting the Haitian Consulate, to reunification coordination.
This program is not affiliated with any government agency or law enforcement entity. AHVED's role is preparedness, coordination, and advocacy — helping families navigate a system they should never have had to face alone.

Objectives
- ○Register 500 Haitian families in the emergency preparedness program within 12 months
- ○Build a trained volunteer reunification team of at least 20 members
- ○Establish legal partnership referral network with 5+ immigration attorneys
- ○Ensure 100% of registered families have designated caregivers and updated authorization documents
- ○Provide 24-hour hotline coverage with trained volunteers by program month 3

Secure, encrypted emergency family files with designated caregivers, medical info, and reunification plans
Legal Resource Hub
Temporary guardianship forms, powers of attorney, document preparation, and attorney referrals
Reunification Support Team
Trained volunteers who activate immediately when a parent is detained to notify caregivers, contact attorneys, and coordinate support
24-Hour Emergency Hotline
One call activates the family's plan — volunteers open the file, notify designated contacts, and begin coordinating support
Foster Care Advocacy
With family consent, AHVED stays connected with children in foster care — maintaining family communication and coordinating with attorneys
Campaigns
Family Unity Emergency Fund
To fund the Family Unity & Child Protection Program — covering volunteer training, legal document preparation workshops, hotline infrastructure, and case management tools for Haitian families facing immigration enforcement in Florida.
