This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website www.ahved.org, make a donation, become a member, volunteer, or interact with us in any way.

Information You Provide Directly

  • Donations: Name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and payment information processed securely through Stripe.
  • Membership applications: Name, email, address, phone, and membership tier selected.
  • Contact forms: Name, email address, and message content.
  • Volunteer applications: Name, email, availability, skills, and background information as applicable.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: Email address and communication preferences.
  • Event registrations: Name, email, and event-specific information.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, time spent, browser type, device type, and referring URL, collected through standard server logs and analytics tools.
  • Cookies: We use essential cookies required for website functionality. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; however, some site features may not function properly.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Process and acknowledge donations and issue tax receipts as required by IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Communicate with you about your membership, volunteer role, or service requests.
  • Send newsletters, impact reports, event invitations, and program updates (only if you have opted in).
  • Maintain legally required donor and financial records.
  • Operate and improve our programs and website.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide customer support.

3. How We Share Your Information

AHVED does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We work with trusted third-party providers including Stripe (payment processing), Resend (email delivery), and Vercel (website hosting). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may only use it to provide services on our behalf.
  • Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or government authority, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of AHVED, our staff, or the public.
  • Organizational partners: With your consent, we may share your information with CANA, Konbit Pou Sove Ayiti, or partner organizations to connect you with services you have requested.

4. Data Retention

We retain donor and financial records for a minimum of seven (7) years as required by IRS guidelines for 501(c)(3) organizations. Other personal data is retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected or as required by law. You may request deletion of non-required data at any time (see Section 7).

5. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. Payment information is never stored on our servers — all payment processing is handled by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS compliant. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at info@ahved.org and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us directly.
  • Data portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format where technically feasible.
