Health Education & Access

Free health screenings, community health coaching, and culturally competent health education for Haitian and immigrant families in South Florida — no insurance required.

Why This Program Exists

Many Haitian and immigrant families in South Florida face significant barriers to accessing healthcare — language gaps, immigration concerns, lack of insurance, and distrust of the system built over generations. The result: preventable conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and vision loss go undetected for years.

AHVED's Health Education & Access program meets families where they already are — in churches, community centers, and neighborhoods — providing free screenings, trained health coaches from their own community, and education in their own language.

Community Health Coach Program

AHVED Santé Plus

What Is a Community Health Coach?

Health coaches are trusted community members — trained by nurses and physicians — who provide basic health screenings and education right in their own neighborhoods. They speak the language, know the culture, and remove the barriers that keep families from getting care.

AHVED partners with local churches, community centers, and organizations to deploy health coaches where communities already gather, making care accessible and comfortable.

What Health Coaches Do

  • Conduct basic health screenings at community events and churches
  • Educate neighbors on disease prevention in their native language
  • Connect families to healthcare providers and social services
  • Follow up with clients to support health goals
  • Attend ongoing training with nurses and physicians
