Association des Haitiens Vivant à l'Étranger pour le Développement (AHVED) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All contributions made to AHVED are charitable donations intended to support our programs, operations, and mission. This policy governs all one-time and recurring donations made through our website or processed by AHVED staff.
1. General Non-Refund Policy
Because charitable donations are irrevocable gifts to AHVED and are generally used immediately to fund programs and services, AHVED does not issue refunds for completed charitable donations as a general rule. Once a donation has been processed, funds are allocated to the programs and operations of AHVED.
This policy is consistent with IRS guidelines for 501(c)(3) organizations and standard charitable giving practices.
2. Exceptions — When a Refund May Be Considered
AHVED will consider a refund request in the following limited circumstances:
a. Unauthorized Transaction
If you believe a donation was made using your payment method without your authorization, please contact us immediately at info@ahved.org. We will investigate promptly and coordinate with Stripe to resolve the issue. You should also contact your bank or card issuer directly.
b. Duplicate Charge
If a technical error caused your payment method to be charged more than once for a single intended donation, AHVED will refund the duplicate amount upon verification. Please contact us with your transaction date and the last four digits of the card used.
c. Verifiable Technical Error
If a system error resulted in an incorrect donation amount being processed (e.g., you intended to donate $25 but were charged $250 due to a website malfunction), AHVED will review the request and, upon verification, issue a correction.
d. Event or Program Cancellation
If you made a donation specifically in connection with a ticketed event or specific program that AHVED subsequently cancels without rescheduling, you may request a full refund of that payment within 30 days of the cancellation notice.
3. Recurring Donations
If you have set up a recurring (monthly or annual) donation:
- You may cancel a recurring donation at any time by contacting us at info@ahved.org or through your Stripe billing portal. Cancellation will stop all future charges but does not entitle you to a refund of amounts already processed.
- If a recurring charge processes after you have submitted a cancellation request but before we have processed it, we will review the situation and may issue a refund of that specific charge as a courtesy.
4. Membership Fees
Membership fees paid to AHVED are generally non-refundable once the membership period has commenced and benefits have been made available. Refund requests for membership fees must be submitted within 14 days of the initial payment and before any membership benefits have been accessed or used.
5. How to Request a Refund
To submit a refund request, please email info@ahved.org with:
- Your full name and email address used at the time of donation.
- The date of the transaction.
- The amount of the donation.
- The last four digits of the payment method used.
- A brief explanation of the reason for your refund request.
All refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the original transaction date. Requests submitted after this period will not be considered.
6. Processing Time
Upon approval of a refund, AHVED will process the refund within 5–10 business days. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Depending on your bank or card issuer, it may take an additional 3–7 business days for the credit to appear on your statement.
7. Tax Implications
If AHVED issues a refund for a donation for which you previously received a tax receipt, you must adjust your tax records accordingly. The refunded amount is no longer a charitable contribution and is not tax-deductible. We recommend consulting your tax advisor regarding any adjustments to your tax filings. AHVED will issue a corrected donation acknowledgment upon request.
8. Chargebacks
If you initiate a chargeback with your bank or credit card issuer without first contacting AHVED, it may result in suspension of your ability to donate to AHVED in the future. We encourage you to contact us directly at info@ahved.org before initiating a chargeback — we are committed to resolving issues promptly and fairly.
