Accessibility

Last Updated: May 2025

AHVED is committed to making our website and programs accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that equitable access to information and services is a fundamental right — and that commitment extends to our digital presence.

Our Standard

We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

What We Do

  • Use semantic HTML to support screen readers and assistive technologies.
  • Provide descriptive alternative text for images.
  • Ensure sufficient color contrast for text readability.
  • Design for keyboard navigation without requiring a mouse.
  • Use clear, plain language — and where possible, provide content in Haitian Creole and other languages served by our community.
  • Make forms labeled and accessible with proper field descriptions.

Known Limitations

We are actively working to improve our website's accessibility. Some older content or third-party embedded tools (such as donation processors, video players, or social media embeds) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We are working to address these gaps over time.

Request an Accommodation

If you need assistance accessing any content on our website, or need information in an alternative format (large print, audio, Haitian Creole, or other language), please contact us:

Email: info@ahved.org
Phone: (772) 278-6151

We will respond to accessibility requests within 5 business days and work with you to provide the information or service you need.

Feedback

If you experience any difficulty accessing content on our website, or if you notice an area that could be improved, please let us know using our contact form or by emailing info@ahved.org. Your feedback helps us improve.

In-Person Accessibility

AHVED's three Florida community centers welcome visitors of all abilities. If you need specific accommodations to attend an AHVED event or visit one of our offices, please contact us in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.
