On August 10th, 2024, Ahved hosted a successful Back-to-School event in Palm Springs, bringing together 210 community members, including both adults and children, to celebrate the start of a new academic year. The event was a vibrant mix of fun, learning, and support, tailored to meet the needs of families preparing for the school season.
Total Participants: 210 (including Adults & Children)
Total Families Represented: 78
Backpacks and School Supplies Distribution: A total of 127 backpacks filled with school supplies were handed out to toddlers and kids. Additionally, we provided supplies to 2 teen boys, 2 teen girls, and even 1 college student. These essentials will ensure that every student starts the school year equipped and confident.
Adult Attendance:
55 adults accompanied children.
23 adults attended without children, showing support for the community and ensuring their families are prepared for the upcoming school year.
Food & Hot Meal Giveaway:A whopping 203 participants enjoyed a variety of delicious meals, thanks to our food and hot meal giveaway. It was a moment of community bonding, with everyone coming together to share a meal.
Health and Wellness Services:
Eye Screening: Sante Plus Medical Center provided eye screenings to 2 adults, ensuring their vision is sharp for the tasks ahead.
Health Screenings & Physicals: 4 students received essential health check-ups,
ensuring they’re ready and healthy for school.
Immigration Services: We assisted 5 people with crucial immigration services, including Temporary Protected Status (TPS), employment authorization, and residency applications. It was a significant help for those looking to stabilize their families' futures.
Haircuts: 25 boys and teen boys left the event looking sharp after receiving complimentary haircuts. This service added a boost of confidence for the new school year.
Ahved’s Back-to-School event in Palm Springs was a resounding success, thanks to the participation and enthusiasm of our community. We were able to provide essential resources, services, and support to help families start the school year on the right foot.
